SUMMARY:Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR)
DESCRIPTION:Every year, the Pride Centre gathers to honour the lives of transgender, two-spirit, and gender-diverse individuals who lost their lives in the past year to transphobic violence. This event provides students with the opportunity to understand further transgender-based violence and its continual impact on transgender and LGBTQ2S+ communities and honour members of the community who have lost their lives.\nOn November 20th, a memorial space will be held in The Gallery (on the second floor of Wyckham House) from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. A ceremony will occur at 12:00 pm in the second-floor study lounge area (just outside The Gallery).\nLearn more about the 356 trans and gender-diverse individuals lost to violence from October 1st, 2023 to September 26th, 2024. Content Warning: Remembering Our Dead ( https://tdor.translivesmatter.info/reports/tdor2023?country=all&category=all&view=list&filter= )\nTransgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honour the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.\n
