When three friends from Edmonton got together, each with different musical experiences and different influences, they saw an opportunity to create their own particular flavour of hip hop, and formed The Mighty Alliance.

Formed in early 2012, the crew has already established a name for themselves in Edmonton, and will be coming to Calgary for a January 22nd show at The Hub.

“Live Music Tuesdays is an opportunity for MRU students to learn more about the thriving local live music scene” commented Joanna Pesta, the Manager of Programming and Events at the Students’ Association of Mount Royal University. Live Music Tuesdays started in the Fall 2012 semester at The Hub and have continued as a showcase for local music from a variety of genres including country, pop, hip hop and rock. The nights have also played host to a few nationally touring acts as well, while still giving up-and-coming musicians (including some MRU students) a chance to take the stage and get experience and exposure.

Joining the January 22nd bill is Rap X, a bombastic hip hop duo from Calgary. They are currently working on recording a full-length album, and are playing shows “left and right” according to Scott Munro who provides the music for the group and Micah Stone, Rap X’s lyricist.

The Hub offers a free cover for MRU students for Live Music Tuesdays, with doors opening at 8:00pm. Cover charge is $5.00 for non-students, or anyone else without a current MRU student ID.
