Attention gym haters! There are ways to get fit without stepping foot on a treadmill. It’s true! (But, I mean, props if you’re a gym buff. You do you). We’ve collected just some of the unique (and fun) ways to get in shape and not rescind on your New Year’s resolutions. Whether you get your work out off-campus or on, there are lots of options to choose from.



Beer Yoga at the Hub

*Insert shameless self-promotion here* You guessed it. Our first stop on this fitness journey is right here at SAMRU! You guys loved Beer Yoga so much last semester that we decided to bring it back for you January 17th in the Hub for Wild Card Wednesday! Tickets are $10 for MRU students (with ID) and that includes one drink. Best. Exercise. Class. Ever. You can get your tickets here. Drop-ins will be accepted if there’s space. Safest bet is to reserve your spot ahead of time.

Acro Yoga

This is a *new* fitness class being offered by Mount Royal at the Rec Centre and it sounds like the bomb dot com. Combining acrobatics and yoga, this is sure to spice up your regular yoga routine and get your blood pumping. Two people will work together to balance one another while you engage in this full-body workout. Beginners welcome! Register here.

Flex Fit Pass

We are LOVING this new pass being offered by MRU Rec this semester. For $55, students can purchase a Flex Fit pass which gains them access to any drop-in fitness class for the whole semester! Whaaaaaaaa?! Get yours online here and pick up at the Recreation desk. Not convinced? Check out all the drop-in classes available before you commit.


Surfing at Studio Fitness Revolution

Surfing? In the Prairies? Yup, you read that right. Hop aboard this unstable surf board for a full-body work out.You’ll use kettle bells and hand weights while you strengthen your core and improve your balance. Beach ready in January? You bet! Check out the program here.

Anti-Gravity at Fit Republic

Is that Cirque du Soleil? Cirque du NO WAY! This is you floating in mid-air using a hammock-like apparatus to help you get into strengthening poses to work your core. Core work combined with calisthenics will have you seeing results all over. Find out more here.

Calgary Sport and Social Club

If you missed intramural registration at MRU, this organization hosts a ton of group sports and there is still Winter season availability! You’ll find your typical team sports like volleyball, soccer, and floor hockey, but you’ll also find dodgeball and pickle ball! They’re kind of a big dill. Find out what leagues are still accepting players here. You can also register to be a sub for any/all of the leagues for FREE!  Create an account and register as a sub through your profile.
