By now, all the cool kids know about Wild Card Wednesdays at the Hub, where you can indulge in a midweek pub quiz, paint night, karaoke sesh, or rousing game of Giant Jenga for the low low price of $0.00. But if you didn’t know, now you do: every Wednesday night, the Hub is home to free entertainment like themed movie nights and live music, as well as our popular flagship events like Sex Toy Bingo and Gender Bender.
For the final Wild Card Wednesday of the year on April 5, the entertainment is, well, you! We’re teaming up with several student clubs to bring you SAMRU’s Got Talent, a contest showcasing the amazing performers hiding among us at MRU. Performers will have five minutes each on the Hub stage to wow a panel of judges, who will vote on the performances. At the end of the evening, fabulous prizes (including cold hard ca$h) will be awarded to first, second and third place, as well as the Audience Favourite.
In order to put on this awesome show, we need awesome student talent. That means you! The competition is open to MRU students and alumni, and we’re accepting all kinds of acts, provided they’re under 5 minutes in length, so if you love performing but aren’t sure the world is ready for your hand puppet/baton-twirling/armpit noises act, don’t hesitate for another second. We want – nay, NEED – to share your Armpit Sonata with a wider audience.
Sign up (or bug your talented friends to sign up) by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org by March 22 with your name, a description of your act, and your student status (i.e. whether you’re a student or alumnus). We’re operating on a first-come, first-served basis, but late applicants will be put on a waitlist in case any acts drop out. If you’re too shy to share your gift, make sure you come out on April 5 to cheer on all the performers – you might just have your mind blown by what your classmates can do!
So, tell us: what’s your talent?
