Sam Ru has been a naughty elf this year. He’s gotten himself into mischief and has been put on the big man’s naughty list. He only has a couple weeks to turn that verdict around and is racking his brain with just how to do it. He checks out How to Win Friends and Influence People from the library thinking there might be some tips on how to change Santa’s mind. He needs to hit the books! Knowing students are going into final exams soon, Sam wanted to share some of his favourite spots he found while studying up on how to be a better elf.

He rated each location based on three criteria: noise level, comfort, and lighting on a scale from one to five snowflakes, five being ELF-TASTIC!

2nd Floor Lounge of Wyckham House

Noise Level: ❄️❄️

Comfort: ❄️❄️❄️

Lighting: ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

While the noise level and comfort of this location are somewhat average, the lighting really puts this spot over the top! With huge windows on the northwest side of the building, there’s lots of natural light without cooking you midday. There’s also the added benefit of being close to food and COFFEE!!!

Y-Wing Reading Room

Noise Level: ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

Comfort: ❄️❄️❄️

Lighting: ❄️❄️❄️

If you need quiet in order to osmosis that textbook, this is the place for you! There is NO talking in this study space which means you can enjoy silent bliss. It’s also just a short walk to Wyckham House when you need to refuel (but there are vending machines close by if you’re not picky). It’s not as fancy as, say, the new library, but this old gem still has lots of natural light.

E-Wing Hallway

Noise Level: ❄️❄️❄️

Comfort: ❄️❄️

Lighting: ❄️❄️❄️

Conveniently located in the middle of campus just off Main Street, this spot is great for a quick cram session or some marathon-level studying. It is decently lit and very quiet (minus those 10 minutes between classes). It might not be the most comfortable spot though, especially if you’re a sprawl-er.

EB 2118 (2nd Floor)

Noise Level: ❄️❄️❄️❄️

Comfort: ❄️❄️❄️

Lighting: ❄️❄️❄️

If you’re looking for a group study spot outside of the new library, this is it! You can book group rooms in this space or just walk in and crack down! Though this space is somewhat out of the way (unless you’re a Business student), it’s worth it for the peaceful study space.

Riddell Library and Learning Centre

Noise Level: ❄️❄️❄️

Comfort: ❄️❄️❄️❄️

Lighting: ❄️❄️❄️❄️

It’s new. It’s shiny. It’s got outlets up the wazoo! I couldn’t leave the new library off the list. This is an ideal study spot (when it’s quiet) but you might find it a bit busy, especially with finals around the corner. Stake out your space early or book a study room in advance! The possibilities are endless.

Trying to be a good elf is hard. Nap time.

Don’t forget to Stress Less next week in the midst of all those exams! Puppies, snacks, massages… SAMRU (and Sam Ru) have got your back. See the full schedule here.
