Stress Less with SAMRU: New Programs, a Contest, and more!

If you’re feeling stressed about your winter semester final exams and projects, check out SAMRU’s free Stress Less programs. All Stress Less resources and activities are free, so you can refresh your body and mind without leaving campus or spending a dime!

This semester, we have four new programs for you to check out! An Oxygen Bar, Sound Bath, Smudge Space, and Giant Games & Popcorn; all brand-new additions to Stress Less! 

Keep reading to get all the details on what you can find during Stress Less week from April 11th – 14th!

Sound Bath

April 12th & 13th | Council Chambers (second floor of Wyckham House, up the stairs in the centre of the food court by Edo) | 2:00 pm – 3:15 pm

Sound baths use the sounds of musical instruments to encourage you to focus on the present moment, which helps to reduce stress. Three Sound Bath sessions will take place in Council Chambers on April 12th and 13th, each for 20 minutes.

Session One: 2:00 pm – 2:20 pm
Session Two: 2:25 pm – 2:45 pm
Session Three: 2:50 pm – 3:10 pm

Oxygen Bar

April 11th & 12th | Wyckham House | 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

Feeling tired from late-night study sessions? Boost your energy levels at our Oxygen Bar! Oxygen bars deliver air that is concentrated with more oxygen than the air you normally breathe, which can make you feel more alert!

Exam Relief Snack Stations

April 11th – 14th | 11:30 am *until supplies last 

Do you study so hard that sometimes you forget to nourish your mind and body? SAMRU has Exam Relief Snack Stations to help you get through those intense cram sessions!

Puppy Room

April 11th – 14th | The Gallery (On the second floor of Wyckham House, next to the study lounge area) | 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Back by popular demand, the Puppy Room is back on campus during Stress Less Week! Research shows that petting or hugging a loving puppy can help calm you when you’re stressed or anxious.

Free Plants

April 11th – 14th | SAMRU Reception (Z222) | 8:30 am – 4:30 pm *while supplies last

Plants in the home can reduce tension because it reminds us of the outdoors, nature, and a slower pace of life, which is instantly calming. Pick up your very own Free Plant (generously donated by the Mount Royal Greenhouse) at SAMRU Reception all week long during Stress Less.

Free DIY Crafts

April 11th – 14th | SAMRU Reception (Z222) | 8:30 am – 4:30 pm *while supplies last

Many people use crafting as self-care! Don’t have time to sit in on a craft? That’s a-ok! You can pick up a craft to take home and do at your own pace!

Smudge Space

April 11th – 14th | Cultural Inclusion Centre (Z203) | 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Smudging is a cultural ceremony practiced by a wide variety of Indigenous people in Canada and throughout the world. Smudging involves burning a selection of herbs for cleansing or health purposes.

Popcorn & Giant Games

April 11th – 14th | West Gate Social | 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Give yourself a break from studying and come by West Gate Social to play some games and snack on popcorn!

Jazz Lounge

April 11th – 14th | West Gate Social | 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Did you know that Jazz Music is said to provide a calm and healing influence? Come by WGS and enjoy some Jazz tunes provided by your very own alumni band: The Swingsetters!
