This program has been temporarily replaced by the Care Package program.
A healthy breakfast is important for maintaining adequate brain function and energy levels throughout the day. Unfortunately, many students either skip or simply can’t afford a nutritious breakfast every day. The Peer Support Centre provides a free, nutritious breakfast to students who need it, to help kick start their day. From 8:45 am (until supplies last) Monday through Friday during the Fall and Winter semesters, fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, bread, coffee, and more provide a simple and healthy foundation that makes learning possible all day long.
The program began as an initiative of a past SAMRU President, and has become one of our most in-demand programs. We’ve heard from lots of those students that there are many days where this is the best meal they can afford to eat all day, which makes this an important initiative.
Can I Donate?
Yes, of course! All donations are valued, every donation helps our mission to represent and serve students to help them succeed. Tax Receipts can be issued for a minimum donation of $20 made by cash or cheque. For more information about donations, please visit our donations page.
How can I get involved?
The Peer Support Centre is always in need of compassionate, and enthusiastic volunteers. Peer Support Centre volunteers provide peer-based active listening, support, and referral to appropriate resources to help other students achieve their goal. All volunteers undergo an extensive training process to help in maintaining respectful safer spaces for those who use the Peer Support Centre, Cultural and Indigenous Inclusion Centre, and Pride Centre. We offer flexible shifts that volunteers can choose on a weekly basis. It is a two hour per week commitment, and all shifts are during the day.
Volunteering with the Peer Support Centre is extremely rewarding and is a great opportunity to meet new people, gain experience and get involved in the community. If you’re interested in supporting your fellow students and connecting the campus community, become a Peer Support volunteer by visiting our volunteer page.
