The production and consumption of plastic materials has an adverse impact on our environment and ocean ecosystems. On Thursday, January 17th, the SAMRU Sustainability Centre along with the Oceans for the Future SAMRU club will be hosting a workshop and potluck in the second floor Gallery to discuss plastic consumption and achievable alternatives to change habits both at home and on campus.

“This is part of the Sustainability Centre’s workshop potlucks that occur on the third Thursday of every month” commented Alana-Dawn Eirikson, the Sustainability Centre Coordinator. She added that the potluck usually runs from 4:30-5:00pm and then the workshop starts at 5:00pm.

Workshops are student-led and designed to focus on learning new skills, sharing knowledge and meeting new people. The Sustainability Centre will also be giving out free reusable water bottles to encourage students to ditch single-use plastic bottles and take advantage of some of the new bottle filling stations around campus!
