Financial well being resources for students

With the many anxieties and uncertainties students face, the last thing you need to do is worry about your finances. If you are stressed, reach out! There’s no need to stress about getting your taxes done or paying portions of your tuition when you should be focusing on studying. But you are in luck! As a credited student attending MRU, you can access many of SAMRU’s financial security resources and programs available to you. 

If you’re finding yourself needing some extra support, know that your Students’ Association is here to help. Here are just some of the Financial Security programs that will (hopefully) get you through the rest of the semester. 

SAMRU Awards 

Deadline approaching at the end of February.

The SAMRU Awards scholarships recognize students who have contributed to their campus community in a way that inspires and enhances the lives of their fellow Mount Royal students. Each year, $40,000 is awarded to students in bursaries and awards. The deadline the apply for SAMRU Awards is February 28 at 4:00 p.m. visit samru.ca/awards to download the Awards Information Booklet. 

SAMRU Tax Clinic

Are you Stressed about tax season approaching? Haven’t even thought about it yet? Check out the SAMRU Tax Clinic! Volunteers help eligible students file their income tax returns via online appointments. Online booking form coming soon. Visit samru.ca/tax for more information. 

Experiential Learning Fund

Run year-round.

If you’re looking to enhance your education through unique opportunities such as conferences, trade shows, possible student exchange programs, or field schools (if it’s permitted), your experience may be eligible to receive funding through the Experiential Learning Fund

This fund is to help eligible students take advantage of unique learning and growth opportunities. If this sounds like something you are interested in, go on, apply!

In certain circumstances, SAMRU may provide short-term emergency students loans. This service is confidential and made to be barrier-free to support students. Please visit the Peers Support Centre (Z210) during office hours to fill out an application. 

Discounted Bus Tickets

When students need; there is max of tickets an individual can purchase.

All SAMRU members (if you’re a credit student, we are talking to you!) can purchase a book of 10 transit tickets from us for only $21 — that’s 40% off the regular price of transit tickets!
