SAMRU’s Vice President External Accepts a Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity
SAMRU’s Student Governing Board has accepted the resignation of Tera Cardinal as the Vice President External on SAMRU’s Representation Executive Council (REC), effective January 24, 2023. Tera has decided to accept a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to intern for the Canadian government at the United Nations in New York!
The Board has decided to leave the VP External position vacant for the remainder of the term and, in the meantime, has opted to redistribute Tera’s remaining tasks among the remaining members of REC.

Emma Maguire, Speaker of the Board, stated that “SAMRU’s Student Governing Board would like to thank VP External Tera Cardinal for all of her hard work and dedication to SAMRU. We wish her all the success in her future endeavours.”
Elected in March 2022, Tera began serving as the REC VP External on May 1, 2022. Her primary goal was to help get students more engaged in the democratic process and encourage them to vote in the upcoming provincial election by leading a Get Out The Vote (GOTV) campaign in partnership with the Council of Alberta University Students (CAUS).
Tera is passionate about the issues that impact students and spent much of her time advocating to Members of Parliament, Ministers, and other external stakeholders on behalf of MRU students. We are confident that she will bring the same passion when representing Canada in her new role.
On top of her work with REC, Tera also worked provincially as the Vice-Chair of CAUS and federally as the Director of Policy at the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA). Tera also served as CASA’s National Indigenous Advisory Committee (NIAC) co-chair.
Join us in wishing Tera the best of luck in her exciting new adventure! Keep an eye open for our REC President, Joseph Nguyen, and our Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Coordinator on campus in the coming months as they work to implement the GOTV campaign, which will help prepare MRU students to make an informed decision in the upcoming provincial election.
