Description

The Calgary Dollars Sustainable Communities Club will plan and implement pop-up markets, repair events and social and educational events aiming to spread awareness about circular economic principles and Calgary’s local currency: Calgary Dollars (C$). Pop-up markets will be on campus with free or low-cost tabling fees to reduce barriers for student and community vendors. These markets will feature local business vendors that accept C$, and the CDSC Club will aim to also recruit MRU students with small/micro businesses to be vendors. This will encourage the use of C$, increase circular economic thinking and work to reduce financial barriers for customers. Other activities the CDSC Club will host are meetings and/or social events at local businesses that accept C$. Through social and educational events we will promote the ways that C$ can be used across the city and on campus. The CDSC Club will also highlight the work of Calgary’s Arusha Centre and their various community-oriented initiatives.

Through the Calgary Dollars Sustainable Communities Club at MRU we strive to promote circular economic thinking and facilitate the use of Calgary’s local currency, C$, among students while both on-and-off-campus. These aims will work toward a more sustainable community on our campus and within our wider city community.

Club Mission

The Calgary Dollars Sustainable Communities Club aims to promote community sustainability by educating about circular economic principles, highlighting community involvement opportunities, spreading awareness about Calgary’s exclusive currency: Calgary Dollars, and promoting local spending and business support.
