February is Black History Month! The SAMRU Cultural Inclusion Centre and collaborators are hosting rich and engaging events highlighting the Black community and experiences of the Black diaspora.

Afro-Caro Student Society: Game Night (Club event)

Celebrating Strength: A Mental Wellness Hour for Black Students

February 13th | Council Chambers (Z236) | 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Join MRU Wellness Services for a one-hour event centered on fostering a supportive space for Black students to connect over food. Together, we’ll discuss mental health challenges unique to Black experiences and exchange practical strategies for maintaining well-being in a post-secondary environment.

Adopting Multiple Frames: Critical Insights for Black Students from Zenzele

February 15th | Council Chambers (Z236) | 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm 

This panel examines the critical insights, as well as the rich and invaluable lessons, on the necessity of cultivating multiple perspectives and embracing one’s hybrid identity in a multicultural contexts contained in J. Nozipo Maraire’s fictional epistolary narrative, Zenzele: A Letter for my Daughter. Black students, indeed any BIPOC students, at MRU will benefit from the discussion of the topical subjects that define the correspondence a Black mother writes to her daughter who is studying at Harvard University.

Join us for a celebration of Black Culture during Black History Month. Students, Staff, and Faculty from across campus will be sharing their experiences and cultural expertise at this drop-in event.
