SAMRU’s statement in support of the Muslim community

Like most Canadians, we are deeply disturbed by the news of the targeted attack on a Muslim family in London, Ontario last week. Islamophobia has no place in our communities and SAMRU will continue to stand against hatred of all forms. This event reminds us once more of the important work that still needs to be done to develop a safer and more inclusive society for all, and SAMRU remains committed to reinforcing the principles of equity and diversity in the work that we do on behalf of and for all MRU students. We have heard from our members about this event and recognize the emotional and psychological impact that hate-motivated acts of terror like this can have on individuals and groups, and in particular Muslim students and students of colour. Please know your Students’ Association is here for you and for all students. You are not alone. You can access support and appropriate referrals by contacting us at info@samru.ca.
