Wellness Tips Over the Summer Break

With summer in full swing, it’s the perfect time to focus on self-care and ensure you feel your best. Whether you’re taking summer classes, working, or simply enjoying your break, these tips will help you maintain your well-being and make the most of the summer season! 

1. Stay Hydrated 💧

    It’s crucial to stay hydrated in the summer heat. Carry a reusable water bottle with you, and aim to drink at least eight glasses of water daily. And for a refreshing twist, add slices of lemon, lime, or cucumber to your water!

    2. Wear Sunscreen and UV Protective Wear 🧴

      Make sure to protect your skin from those harmful UV rays while you’re out enjoying the sunshine!. Before going outside, remember to apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Also, don’t forget to wear hats, sunglasses, and UV-protective clothing – it’s essential (and can be stylish). 

      3. Eat Healthy Meals 🥗

      Summer is a great time to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables, and is also a prime time to shop locally at farmer’s markets for some pristine summer vibes.       4. Maintain a Positive Mindset 🧘

        Take time to relax and unwind by practicing mindfulness or meditation to reduce stress. Surround yourself with positive influences and engage in activities that bring you joy.         5. Engage in Self-Care Activities

        Self-care is essential for overall well-being. Here are some ideas for self-care activities this summer:

        Exercise Regularly 🚲

        Dust off your bike or make some time to go for a swim with some friends! Now’s the best time to take advantage of shorts 🩳 weather.

        Read for Pleasure 📖

        Reading is much less mentally taxing when you aren’t reading textbook chapters for a discussion post. Head over to your favourite local bookstore or download a classic for a perfect under-the-tree activity!

        Explore Hobbies 🧵

        Have you ever wanted to get into crocheting or wanted to learn how to play the ukulele? Summer is the perfect time to explore new hobbies and discover new passions!


        With how nice it is outside, you have to make the most of the extra Vitamin D before it’s covered with a layer of snow. Gather some friends and family and take a walk in a park you haven’t visited yet, or share a snack at a riverside picnic table.

        6. Check out the SAMRU Centres 

          Just because it’s July doesn’t mean your Students’ Association is closed! As a SAMRU member, you’ll continue to have access to SAMRU resources, programs, and spaces over the summer!
