Welcome Rachel Timmermans, Your new VP External!

We’re so excited to welcome Rachel Timmermans to the 2020-21 Representation Executive Council as your new Vice President External! We asked Rachel a few questions to help you get to know her:

What is your year and major?

I am going into the 7th (last) year of my Policy Studies Degree.

Why did you decide to run for REC?

Through out my time at Mount Royal I’ve had many great opportunities to speak with other students. In those moments I often heard about barriers faced and complaints students had about their time at MRU. I realized a lot of these problems could be addressed by SAMRU and its Representation Executive Council in one way or another. So, I decided why not step up and run. I was informed about a lot of student issues, and I felt I had an idea as to how to address them. I’ve noticed students and young people in general feel like their voices often aren’t heard, or there is no way to make a tangible difference in your community. This year I will strive to start changing that opinion.

What’s the best part about working for SAMRU thus far?

Knowing every day you’re working to better the lives of your fellow students.

What are you working on right now?

Right now we’re getting ready to launch an Advocacy Campaign about the Provincial Budget.

What’s one thing you wish students knew about SAMRU?

Just how many services and supports are available to you through SAMRU.

How can students get in touch with you?

How are you staying sane in this pandemic?

Playing lots of Rocket League

Last thoughts?

I’m excited to see what the year brings! Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
