Help shape SAMRU’s work

SAMRU’s Advisory Committee brings student and community perspectives into the conversation. It exists to provide insight, feedback, and informed advice that helps strengthen SAMRU’s work in support of students.

As a member-governed organization, SAMRU values meaningful member participation. The Advisory Committee is one way to contribute their experience, ideas, and perspective to help inform priorities, services, and initiatives.

We’re looking for former involved members who are thoughtful, collaborative, and committed to student success. Diverse experiences and perspectives are encouraged.

What the Advisory Committee does

The Advisory Committee serves as a forum for thoughtful discussion and constructive input. Depending on its mandate, the committee may:

  • Provide advice on strategic priorities, initiatives, or emerging issues
  • Offer member and stakeholder perspectives on student needs and experiences
  • Help identify opportunities, gaps, risks, and areas for improvement
  • Support stronger communication, transparency, and connection between SAMRU and the communities it serves
  • Bring forward diverse viewpoints that strengthen decision-making

The Advisory Committee is advisory in nature. It does not replace the authority of the Student Governing Board or operational decision-making by staff. Its role is to inform, support, and strengthen SAMRU’s work through discussion, insight, and recommendations.

We welcome applicants with a range of backgrounds, experiences, identities, and areas of expertise. A strong committee is not built from sameness. It is built from useful difference.

Eligibility

Committee membership is subject to the committee’s bylaws. In general, SAMRU’s bylaws support member participation in governance or representation committees and advisory bodies where members are qualified and properly appointed.

Time commitment

Members can expect to:

  • Attend regular committee meetings
  • Review materials in advance
  • Participate respectfully and in good faith
  • Contribute ideas, feedback, and recommendations

Meeting frequency, term length, and specific expectations will be outlined in the committee’s terms of reference.
