Community Resources

SAMRU will close for the break on December 26th, 2022 and return on January 3rd, 2023. If you need support during this time, here are a few community resources that may be helpful.

Mental Health Support

Distress Centre Calgary (DCC) provides 24-hour crisis support, professional counselling, youth peer support, and referrals through 211 and programs at SORCe, all at no cost.

Access Mental Health: Calgary Zone

Access Mental Health is a non-urgent service providing information, consultation, and referrals for individuals with addiction or mental health concerns. Mental health clinicians complete a clinical interview over the telephone to assess the individuals’ needs. Mental health clinicians are familiar with Alberta Health Services (AHS) and community-based programs and explore all options to refer individuals to the most appropriate resources.

Trans Lifeline

This line is primarily for transgender people experiencing a crisis. This includes people who may be struggling with their gender identity and are not sure they are transgender. While the goal is to prevent self-harm, Trans Lifeline welcomes the call of any transgender person in need.

Food Support

If you are in need of food support, the Calgary Food Bank can provide food hampers. To request a hamper, fill out this form. Hampers can be picked up by yourself, a family member, or a friend. There are also 14 satellite locations that you can visit to pick up your food hamper closer to home.

If you are facing an emergent need for food, medication, temporary shelter or emergency basic dental services, call the Income Support Contact Centre (available 24/7) toll free at 1-866-644-5135 for an assessment.
