Student Conflict Support
Life as a student isn't just about exams and lectures. It’s also about navigating relationships, and we want to help you build your skills to understand and become comfortable engaging in healthy conflict. Whether you are dealing with a roommate who refuses to do the dishes, a group project member who has ghosted you, or a friendship that has hit a rough patch, conflict happens.
You don’t have to figure it out alone. SARC provides conflict coaching and mediation services for students. Mediation is exclusive to conflicts between students. Conflict coaching is available to any student, including those navigating a conflict with a faculty or staff member. Our goal is to provide a safe, informal space where you can talk through your options, understand different perspectives, and find a way forward.

Our Services
- One-on-One Conflict Coaching: Want to talk to someone privately about a conflict in your life? In these individual sessions, we’ll help you unpack what’s happening, brainstorm ways to approach the situation, and practice how to have a tough conversation.
- Peer Mediation: If all parties involved are willing to chat, our mediators will facilitate a neutral conversation to help you and the other student(s) reach a mutual, informal understanding.
Please Note: We are an informal, voluntary service. We do not write up official contracts, we are not enforcers, we cannot provide therapy-based sessions, and we hold no institutional authority to make anyone stick to an agreement. We are simply here to help you communicate and work through conflict constructively.
What We Handle
We are equipped to help you navigate everyday campus and life conflicts, including:
- Roommate & Residence Disputes: Chores, noise, guests, and space sharing.
- Group Work & Academic Teams: Miscommunications, unequal division of labour, and personality clashes.
- Friendships & Peer Relationships: General misunderstandings, social friction, and setting boundaries.
All services remain strictly confidential, unless there is a risk to your wellbeing or the safety of others, in which case we have a duty to report to MRU Security or 911.
What to Expect For Your Appointment
We want your experience with SARC to be as smooth and stress-free as possible. Here is what the process looks like from start to finish:
- Submit Your Intake Form: To get started, you will fill out our brief, online intake form. This helps us gather basic contact information, understand the type of support you are looking for, and ensure your situation falls within our service scope.
- Initial Intake Assessment: Once we receive your form, a member of our team will review it. We may reach out via email to clarify details or confirm that participation is fully voluntary for everyone involved.
- Booking Your Session: After reviewing your intake, we will work with your schedule to book either a one-on-one conflict coaching session or coordinate a joint mediation time for all parties.
- The Appointment: Your session will be held in a private, neutral space. We will begin by reviewing our confidentiality boundaries, and then hand the floor to you to share your perspective, map out goals, and collaborate on constructive solutions.
All services remain strictly confidential, unless there is a risk to your wellbeing or the safety of others, in which case we have a duty to report to MRU Security or 911.
