Your Students’ Association is still available for you over the summer!

Spring! A time when you can (maybe) get away with t-shirt weather in Calgary. Whether you’re taking up spring classes, gaining experience through an internship, or working for the summer, there are still many services available to students through SAMRU! Don’t forget to give yourselves a break and take time to relax – you’ve earned it!

Student Advocacy Resource Centre

Have an academic or non-academic concern that you need support with? Contact the Student Advocacy Resource Centre (SARC)! SARC provides confidential services, support and options for individual students experiencing both academic and or non-academic advocacy concerns and questions. If you’re experiencing a situation that is affecting your success at Mount Royal University, the Student Advocacy Resource Centre may be a support to you. View a full list of services and book an appointment here.

Discounted Bus Tickets

What’s the deal? Well, SAMRU members (if you’re a credit student, that’s you!) can purchase a book of 10 transit tickets from us for only $21 — which is 40% off of the regular price! We can mail them straight to your home for an additional shipping charge.

Request your tickets to be mailed here or stop by SAMRU Reception (Z222) to pick yours up today!

My Student Benefits Plan: Spring and Summer Benefits

If you have coverage with SAMRU’s Student Health & Dental Plan, then you are covered over the spring and summer semesters too! Your coverage lasts until August 31, 2021, and for those returning in the fall – your coverage will be renewed automatically in the next academic year.

Not returning to MRU? Remember to utilize some of your health and dental benefits before your coverage runs out.

If you have questions about your coverage or how to submit a claim, check out the Student Health & Dental Plan online.

Community Garden

The community garden is a unique space on the MRU campus and is located in the Student Residence East Court. The community garden is a communal endeavour and members are encouraged to treat it as their own garden. With COVID-19 restrictions in place, we kindly ask you to register to volunteer in advance and once you are qualified to start, you’ll get to take home garden-fresh produce and greens.

Good Food Box

Orders are due by 3:00 p.m. on the order date. The Good Food Box is a barrier-free program operated by the Community Kitchen Program of Calgary that allows you to purchase fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables at an affordable cost! Good Food Boxes are delivered to the Students’ Association once a month. Orders can be placed over the phone at the SAMRU Service Hub (Z222) at 403-440-6077.

Care Packages

Ready-to-take single bag hampers of non-perishable food and hygiene supplies are replacing our Free Breakfast Program and the Food and Hygiene Cupboard program of the Peer Support Centre during COVID-19. Students can arrange to pick up a Care Package during reception hours, Monday to Friday (except Statutory holidays) from 9:00 am-4:00 pm. Email Reception to get your SAMRU Care Package or call 403-440-6077. Please bring your student ID with you.

Peer Support Centre Ongoing Services

SAMRU’s Peer Support Centre remains operational through the summer to continue providing much-needed financial and food security programming. If you’re in need of peer support, resource referrals, emergency student funds, or other services, contact them at peersupport@samru.ca.

Bright Wellness Portal

Students have free access to the Bright wellness portal as SAMRU members until December 2021. The portal provides students access to hundreds of free live sessions including interactive fitness, yoga, mindfulness and nutrition!

Access your free Bright account here to explore hundreds of free sessions!

SAMRU Tax Clinic

SAMRU’s Free Tax Clinic is over, however, we may still accept clients on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us for more information or if you have questions. You can also find other free tax clinics on the CRA website

Look for us next year when we will be offering another Free Tax Clinic in March of 2022!

Program Contacts and Support

Your SAMRU team is always here to support you, if you need support this spring or summer, please feel free to reach out. SAMRU administrative and programming staff are working on summer projects, while our service centres are still offering support for students and volunteer opportunities.
